INTORDUCTION

The District Excise Office, Rayagada has been functioning since July'1994. Before formation of this district, it was under the control of Koraput district.

This district has been parceled out into six Charges and two Ranges for smooth running of the Excise Administration. They are Rayagada Range and Gunupur Range. Under Rayagada Range, there  are 3 charges, they are Rayagada, Kashipur & K.Singhpur charge and under Gunupur Range there are 3 charges, they are Gunupur, Gudari and Bissamcuttack charge.

One inspector of Excise is posted to each Range and he looks the performance of each Sub-inspector of Excise under his control.

One Sub-Inspector of Excise is posted to each charge and one A.S.I. of Excise four to six Excise Constables are posted under his control to assist him in all legitimate Govt. work.

The object of the Excise department is to check the consumption of intoxicant and to collect Excise Revenue. The duties of all officers of the Excise department are to prevent and detect offences against the laws in force and to inspect shops licensed by the Excise Department and to check illicit or improper practices on the part of licensed vendors, to supervise Distilleries and ware-houses to discourage excessive indulgence in intoxicants, Opium and other dangerous drugs and generally to perform such other duties as may be imposed from time to time by the proper authorities. Also they have duties of ensuring the proper collection of Excise revenue.
